A decade ago, Beijing was called the “airpocalypse capital” of the world; a city drowning in smog and pollution. But in 2013, China declared a “war on pollution”, investing over $100 billion to reclaim its skies. The country shut down thousands of polluting factories, upgraded fuel standards, and moved heavy industries out of urban areas. Millions of old vehicles were scrapped, coal was replaced with cleaner fuels like natural gas, and massive investments were made in solar and wind energy. Beyond technology, China also turned to nature planting over 35 billion trees across 12 provinces as part of the Great Green Wall project. Today, Beijing reportedly enjoys 100 more clear-sky days a year than it did a decade ago. Now, China says it’s ready to share that blueprint with India but with Delhi’s AQI consistently above 300, the real question is: Will India take the offer?
